Engagement Rate
Percentage of followers who interact with a post (likes + comments + shares + saves divided by reach or followers).
Engagement rate is the single most-tracked metric in social media. It measures how 'sticky' your content is — how many of the people who saw your post actually did something with it. Higher engagement signals the algorithm that your content is worth showing to more people, which drives organic reach. Most platforms compute it as (interactions / impressions) * 100, but some use followers as the denominator. A 'good' engagement rate varies by platform: Instagram averages 0.5-1%, TikTok 5-9%, LinkedIn 2-3%, X 0.05-0.1%.
Examples
- A LinkedIn post seen by 1,000 people that gets 30 likes, 5 comments and 2 reposts = 3.7% engagement rate.
- An Instagram Reel with 10k views and 800 interactions = 8% engagement rate.
