Prompt
A prompt is the instruction, question or context given to an AI model to produce a specific piece of text, image or video output.
A prompt is the input text (and sometimes reference images or files) fed to an AI model to get a specific output back. It can be as short as a single sentence or as long as a detailed brief with examples, constraints and tone guidance, and the quality of that input drives the quality of the result far more than most people expect.
A vague prompt like 'write a caption for this photo' forces the model to guess at tone, audience and goal, while a specific one that states the platform, the target reader, the length limit and 2 or 3 concrete details usually needs no rewriting. 'Prompt engineering' is the informal name for the skill of writing that specific version consistently, often by giving the model examples of the style wanted or a fixed structure to follow.
