A/B Testing

A/B testing runs two versions of the same post, caption, image or ad against each other to see which performs better before you commit to one.

A/B testing splits an audience or a set of time slots so two variants, usually differing in exactly one element such as a caption, a hook, a thumbnail or a posting time, run side by side. Results are compared against one defined metric, like clicks, saves or conversions, instead of a gut feeling about which version looks better.

It matters because a single post performing well can be luck, timing or one lucky share, not a repeatable pattern. Testing consistently across many posts is what actually tells you what works for your specific audience, rather than trusting a general benchmark or a blog article written for someone else's account.

Change only one variable per test so you know what caused the difference, and wait for a large enough sample before declaring a winner. Log results so a caption style or hook you have already proven correct does not get tested again and again on the same account for no reason. Brandlix's scheduler includes built-in A/B testing for posts, so two caption or image variants can run and get compared without manually duplicating and re-scheduling each one.

Examples

  • A bakery tests a question caption against a statement caption on two otherwise identical Reels; the question version gets 40 percent more comments.
  • An agency A/B tests posting the same carousel at 9am versus 6pm for a client over four weeks and finds the evening slot consistently doubles saves.
